Can India defend 107 in Bengaluru Test? Here’s what history says

India need a Herculean task to win their opening Test against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Black Caps need 107 runs to win the match and go 1-0 up in the three-match Test series. But the question is what are the odds of India winning the Test match and turning the tables on the Tom Latham-led Kiwis?
IND vs NZ, 1st Test, Day 4 Updates
India have defended a target of 107 or less only once in their Test history. Back in 2004 at the Wankhede Stadium in India, Rahul Dravid’s India beat Ricky Ponting’s Australia by 13 runs after bowling the opposition out for 93 in the fourth innings while defending 107. The spin trio of Murali Kartik, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh scripted victory for India.
India also bowled the Aussies out for 83 while defending 143 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1981. The lowest score India have defended against New Zealand was 188 back in September 1969 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The lowest score defended by India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was 188 back in March 2017 against Steve Smith’s Australia.
After being bowled out for 46 in their first innings, India conceded a huge lead of 356 runs. However, the home team came out firing on all cylinders to score 462 in their second innings. Sarfaraz Khan was the standout batter for the Indian team after he racked up 150 runs off 195 balls with the help of 18 fours and three sixes.
Rishabh Pant was unlucky to miss out on a century after he scored 99 runs off 105 balls before William O’Rourke dismissed him. O’Rourke and Matt Henry picked up three wickets apiece. Only four balls were possible in New Zealand’s run-chase on Day 4 before rain stopped play once and for all.
