3D Printed Prescription Lens Adapters with magnetic basefor
Oculus Quest 2 DIY package
. You can swap the adapters easily for different prescription lens or take out the adapters for people who don't need the prescription lens. The design of adapters allows the lens of high degree of myopia (successful testing on degrees of -12.75 and -11.75) since it has an open end. Overall it is around to get a glasses from Zenni with regular lens and the total cost will be cheaper than those from the most online retailers.
You will need to order the glasses with lenses from
Zenni # 550021. (https://www.zennioptical.com/p/metal-alloy-full-rim-frame-with-spring-hinges/5500?skuId=550021
). Just enter your prescription with one number of IPD
65mm
. High index and anti-glare coating are highly recommended your degrees are high. It will take about 3 weeks to get your glasses. Before taking down the lens,
use blue painting tape or marker to mark the vertical orientation (up and down) and to mark the left/right lens of the glasses
. Insert the lens with the corresponding orientation into the left and right Lens Adapters and install the bases on the Quest 2 (after taking down the facial interface) on the Quest 2. Then you can put the adapters on the top of the bases or take them out easily.
The bases are printed with
PETG
which are stronger and more flexible than PLA.
Two pair of Lens Adapters (printed by PETG)
are also provided. The whole installation should take about 5-10 minutes. You shall insert the lens from the top of the adapter (Able to see the Arrow). When inserting the lens into adapter, insert one side of lens first, then push the lens into the other side of adapters with just enough force. If there are any issues with the installation, I will provide support based on my personal experience.
The lens and Quest 2 in the pictures are not included. What you will get are two magnetic bases, two pairs of Lens Adapters printed with PETG (Black and "Blue or Gray Silver"). The magnets are super glued in the adapters. One extra magnet for backup is also provided.
The design of these adapters is credited to jegstad on Thingiverse 3659124 with my remix to make the bases fit better and provide larger gap between Quest lens and prescription lens. I also remixed the lens adapter that provides stronger circumference surrounding to prevent the breaking of adapter while inserting the lens.
